Why Do We Have One Night Stands?

What is the purpose of the one-night stand? Does it accomplish anything? I don't condone one-night stands; for me they've led to awkwardness, and self-loathing (of course I'm filled with self loathing without sex in my life, so what's the difference?).
I'm reluctant to accept "I was drunk" as the sole reason for a one night stand. Alcohol contributes to risky behavior or clouds judgment. As a depressant, it also enhances negative emotions. In light of this, there are temporary mindsets we should not mix with alcohol--mindsets that make us more vulnerable and prone to a one night stand.
Here they are:
Lonely Mentality
Sex can seem like a quick fix for loneliness. It's not that we feel validated when we have sex, but it is nice to know that we are attractive. That physical and mental intimacy, while fleeting, is nice in the moment. Unfortunately, though, when that person leaves your life, your loneliness intensifies.
Vengeful Mentality
It's pretty twisted, but sex can be used for revenge. Sleeping with that jerky ex's best friend, or some other "strategic" person to hurt someone else is the M.O. However, using people to hurt other people will only lead to a bad outcome.
Risk-taking Mentality
You know those periods in your life you're more inclined to take risks? Sex is sometimes risky behavior, along with drugs, alcohol, etc. It's unhealthy to take risks that impact the body and mind, but it's also thrilling.
Desiring Mentality
It's not always mental. Sometimes you just want to get laid. Unfortunately, for me, when I want to get laid, I don't. When I don't feel like getting laid, suddenly opportunities abound.
Liberated Mentality
You think you're over your ex, so you run out and exercise your rights to freedom. But if you're going to an extreme, such as having a one night stand, to prove you're over someone, then you are probably not really over them.
Closing the Loop Mentality
There are some people in your life with sexual tension. Things should have happened, but circumstances didn't permit at the time. All of a sudden, you've got an opportunity and you both know you have to do it. It's all about getting it out of your system.
I've had three one night stands in my life. They can all be traced back to a mentality above:
College - Freedom Mentality/Revenge Mentality - I had just broken up with my first serious girlfriend and I met a random girl at a party and slept with her, partially because I was free to do so, and partially because I wanted to (pun intended) stick it to my ex.
Italy - Risk-taking Mentality - Living abroad in Italy for two months, "what happened in Italy stayed in Italy". This was the most random encounter I ever had with a girl from Xavier University. That's the only thing I knew about her, that she attended Xavier.
High School Friend - Closing the Loop - I ended up having a one night stand with a girl I had dated in high school years later. We flirted for years and finally got the whole thing out of our systems.
The mindsets outlined above are about vulnerability. When we go away from home, feeling lonely, or just got dumped, the vulnerability feeds the one-night stand mentalities. The alarming thing is that there are guys out there who know how to sense this mindset in a woman. They intentionally look for vulnerable women with sex in mind, but no intention of dating or communicating afterward.
The other ingredient, of course, is animal attraction. But this attraction lives in us every day. We only act upon it when our mentality dictates it. So, I contend that a one night stand is 90% mental, even though it's a physical act.
I have outgrown one night stands. Sex without connection, laughter, love, compatibility, and mutual experience is empty. This explains why it's awkward the next day when everyone comes back down to earth.

US university scraps porn after funding threat

An attempt to distract university students in Maryland from late-night drinking with a feature-length porn movie was blocked Thursday after state senators threatened to cut funds for the college.
The two-and-a-half-hour "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge" -- the most expensive pornographic film ever made, at a cost of 10 million dollars -- would have been shown at a University of Maryland student union theater on Saturday.
Organizers at the College Park campus, 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of Washington, had championed educational aspects of the screening, with health group Planned Parenthood planning to hold a presentation on safe sex practices beforehand.
The event was also previously seen by university officials as an "alternative to late-night drinking and other dangerous activities," the Baltimore Sun reported before the cancellation.
Republican state senator Andy Harris, however, proposed an amendment to the state budget to deny millions of dollars in funding for any educational institutions that screen a porn movie.
Harris said he had been "shocked and dismayed" to hear the college was going to screen the movie, and denounced what he described as the "dangers of pornography."
He said he was "extremely concerned that the policy of our public colleges and universities would allow 'hard core' pornography" to be shown.
"I am pleased to know that the university did the right thing and canceled this movie. However, I remain concerned that they do not have a policy prohibiting this," the senator said in a statement after the university reversed its decision.
Harris added he was "working to seek assurances that this will not happen again."
The Sun said that during a lengthy debate Thursday morning at the state legislature in Annapolis, Maryland, senate president Thomas Miller indicated he would back Harris' threat to cut millions of dollars in funding.
Linda Clement, the university's vice president of student affairs, denied the cancellation was linked to threats made by state lawmakers.
"No, we canceled the (showing) because the educational context of the movie has been lost in the titillation that's been associated with the movie itself," according to Clement's spokesman Millree Williams.
"That's hard to believe," responded Adam Kissel, director of the Individual Rights Defense Program at the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The university's claim, he said, was extremely unlikely because beforehand "university administrators had known about it, had expected it to go on and they had no problem with it."
Kissel said his education rights group was "very concerned" about the likely constitutional violation, namely the First Amendment that protects free speech.
"Strictly based on the plot and the trailer, the movie has plenty of action beyond the sexual action -- it has a plot, it has intrigue, just like any movie.
"So it's almost 100 percent certain that the university is violating the free speech rights of the students," said Kissel, noting that a First Amendment case was strengthened because of the educational component of Planned Parenthood's presentation.
Digital Playground, the adult film company behind "Pirates II," said on its website it had already shown the film to thousands of students on several college campuses this year, including the University of California, Los Angeles; Northwestern University in Chicago; and Southern Connecticut State University.
On-campus showings of X-rated movies such as "Behind the Green Door" and "Deep Throat" stirred sensation and controversy in the 1970s and 1980s, but porn has become commonplace on campuses over the past decade with virtually unlimited access to X-rated material via the Internet.

1. Prying into private info. If you suspect your partner of betrayal, does that give you the right to start reading your partner's email? To listen to his/her voicemail messages? To hack into his/her online profile? The answer to all of these is "No!". You should never dig through your partner's personal emails or listen to your partner's voicemail messages By doing this, you violate not only your partner's trust, but also the trust your partner has with anyone who left those voice messages and emails.
2. Lying for the greater good. Lying is never good in a relationship, although we've probably all been guilty of doing it. Lying to your partner in an effort to avoid hurting him/her or to avoid confrontation may seem like a wise decision. Regrettably, you will end up digging a deeper hole for yourself when that lie is exposed, which is almost always inevitable. When caught in this situation, you end up hurting your partner anyway, and whatever you were trying to protect your partner from -- by lying to them -- will be even worse because of your deception. I recommend honestly communicating with your partner from the get-go.
3. Pulling a "James Bond." You should never snoop in your partner's private things (drawers, wallet, filing cabinet, or private records -- such as bank or credit card statements). Furthermore, nothing justifies snooping. No matter what you have a "hunch" about, snooping through your partner's things should never be pursued to confirm or deny your hunch. Your partner's possessions and personal records should be kept private unless he/she gives you permission to look at them. Spying on your partner is one of the most blatant violations of your partner's trust and will achieve nothing except having your partner never trust you to be alone near his/her things ever again.
4. Designating yourself "Magnum P.I." Another ill-advised way some people try to verify suspected bad behavior by their partner is to take on the role of private investigator by attempting to "catch their partner in the act" of doing something. Whether this takes the form of searching for your partner's car by driving by his/her house, work, or gym or it takes the form of following your partner in your car, this is something you should never do. Even if you have a convincing hunch that your partner is hiding something from you, stalking is the wrong way to address it. If your partner finds out you've been "tailing him/her" in your car, he/she will no longer trust you.
5. Sending others to do your dirty work. Don't ever send a friend or anyone else to gather information for you about your partner or to spy on your partner for you. This means, don't send a friend to go hang out where you know or suspect your partner will be. Don't have your friend try to eavesdrop on your partner's conversations in places he/she goes. Don't ask your friends to use their cell phone to snap covert pictures of your partner. All of these favors from friends not only violate your partner's trust, but also reveal your total lack of trust in your partner.
6. Checking up constantly. One of the biggest ways to reveal that you don't trust your partner is to manifest that distrust with paranoid and obsessive behavior. While calling your partner regularly is quite normal, calling him/her incessantly to "check up" comes off as obsessive and will drive your partner away. If, for example, your partner is unable to answer his/her phone for a few hours and by the time he/she accesses it he/she discovers you've called 50 times, you not only come off as being paranoid and obsessive, but you clearly communicate to your partner that you distrust him/her. Also, when you panic every time 10 minutes go by without a reply from your partner by a phone call or an email, it sends the exact same message.
So even if you have some type of "intuition" that your partner is hiding something from you, it's better to engage in a confrontation with him/her openly rather than searching for answers secretly. Even if your partner doesn't respond to your attempts to talk about it the first, second, or third time, chances are that you'll eventually discuss it -- and the outcome of voicing your suspicions honestly with your partner will always be better than if your partner discovers you engaged in any of the behaviors I've talked about.

No matter how much love exists in your relationship, it cannot survive without trust. Violating someone's trust will never take a relationship to a better place. In fact, by doing so, you may very well be single-handedly orchestrating the end of what could have been a fantastic relationship. Also, keep in mind that I didn't mention the most obvious relationship-ending behavior to avoid: cheating.

The reality: With the right trigger circumstances, anyone is susceptible to cheating. "There are as many different profiles as there are people who have affairs," says Douglas Snyder, Ph.D., a couples therapist and a professor of psychology at Texas A and M University. Yet the myth persists that there's a recognizable "type" of person who's unfaithful. That's why it took Linda Mitchell, 43, a personal trainer in Monroe, OH, by such surprise when she found out her first mate was having an affair. "He never did anything to lead me to think he would cheat," she says. "He'd bring me flowers, tell me how beautiful I was and what a great partner I was."
While some people are chronic philanderers, it's more common to unintentionally wind up in an affair. "People who have accidental affairs have no thoughts of being unfaithful," says Snyder. "It's not even consistent with their values system, but the opportunity presents itself." Maybe a coworker hits on you during a business trip when you're stressed, or your cute handyman compliments you when you're getting over a fight with your mate.
"Here's the best way to prevent affairs: Rather than saying, 'We will never have one,' instead think of the kind of person, situation and mood that would make you vulnerable," says Barry McCarthy, Ph.D., a marital therapist and author of "Getting It Right This Time: How to Create a Loving and Lasting Marriage." Maybe you're so nurturing that you'd be vulnerable helping a neighbor whose wife just died, while your fun-loving sister would be susceptible during a trip to Las Vegas. It may feel contrived or scary, but having this tough conversation with your partner can help you both recognize chancy situations and be on guard.
You can also stay in safe territory with friends of the opposite sex by not confiding personal things, like airing complaints about your mate, and not keeping anything about those friendships secret. "You know you've crossed a line if you don't want your mate to know about whatever you're talking about with this person," says Tina Pittman Wagers, Psy.D., a clinical psychologist and instructor at the University of Colorado at Boulder. "If it starts feeling like that, then you need to pull back and reestablish closeness with your mate."Myth #2: It's men who cheat.
The reality: While baby-boomer men do cheat more, women in their 20s and 30s have affairs just as frequently as men their age, according to new research. One reason: More women are working. When you have a job, you've got more financial freedom, which could make you more comfortable taking a gamble with your relationship. You also have opportunity; around 46 percent of women and 62 percent of men who have affairs cheat with someone from work.Myth #3: Long-term boredom leads to an affair.
The reality: Michael, 34, a lawyer in Tampa, says his wife started having an affair before the couple's two-year anniversary. "I never, ever thought that would happen," says Michael. Yet the so-called honeymoon period is actually a high-risk time for infidelity. "More people have affairs the first two years of marriage than any other time," says McCarthy. Women may experiment with a comparison affair: Would I be better off with this guy? Did I make a mistake in marrying my spouse? Men, on the other hand, are likely to cheat for reasons that have nothing to do with their relationship. Thanks to their upbringing or their circle of friends, they may believe that's just what guys do.
An early affair may be just a last fling that a couple can work through, but it's more likely a wake-up call to a person that his or her partner has a fundamentally different model of monogamy, says Wagers. Still, newlywed affairs don't have to spell doom. If both partners decide that they want to give their union another shot, it's important to figure out what factors contributed to the affair and whether there's any hope for changing them.Myth #4: A man is driven to infidelity when he's not happy in his relationship.
The reality: It's true that the majority of women who've had an affair reported being physically and emotionally disengaged from their partners for at least a year before the affair. But more than half of men involved in affairs reported being happy or very happy in their marriages prior to cheating, according to a survey by the late Shirley Glass, Ph.D., noted infidelity researcher and author of NOT "Just Friends." Lots of other factors weigh into a guy's decision to start an affair, including chemistry, opportunity and poor impulse control. "I counseled a couple where the husband's younger coworker made a pass at him when they were at a conference and he accepted," says Wagers. "Even though he felt close to his wife and he felt like he had a good marriage, he was excited and flattered that this woman who was 15 years younger found him attractive."
Many cheaters do blame their actions on a less-than-perfect home life, but researchers say they're just rewriting history. "Often times these are retrospective reports that are now having to justify how it is that the partner violated vows," says Snyder. Granted, lots of cheaters are unhappy on some level in their marriages. But so are many men and women who don't have affairs. "Infidelity isn't the only road," says Wagers. "If you're not satisfied in your marriage, you might also be driven to talk to your partner." That's why therapists say it's so important to stay in touch with each other. For you, that might mean setting aside 20 minutes every night to talk about your day, your differences and your dreams. "It's the whole idea of staying close to your spouse," says Wagers. "The more disconnected you get from the relationship, the easier it is to slide down the slippery slope of infidelity."Myth #5: Adulterers find lasting happiness with their affair partners.
The reality: No matter how blissful they feel, affair pairings rarely get to happily ever after. A whopping 75 percent of affair partners who marry end up divorced. For one thing, the qualities that attract you to an affair partner -- like impulsiveness or extravagance -- might be the polar opposite of what makes you happy long-term. And during affairs, lovers are under the spell of chemical changes in their bodies that make them feel euphoric -- feelings that are exaggerated even more by the secrets they're keeping. They're in a type of fantasy world, focusing only on each other and not getting bogged down in day-to-day stuff like bills and child rearing. "Somebody may seem like a soul mate when it's all fresh and shiny," says Wagers. "But you can't assume the new-car smell is going to last 15 years."Myth #6: Betrayed partners know on some level when their partners are fooling around.
The reality: In many cases, the betrayed mate is totally in the dark. "A lot of cheating partners are really invested in keeping this secret and are very good at lying," says Wagers. So true, says Dayle DeCillo, 39, a mother of five in Mission Viejo, CA, who had zero suspicion that her husband of 11 years was unfaithful -- until she discovered him with another woman. "I was blindsided," she says. "He was a paramedic and firefighter, and was gone a lot, either 'working' or 'working out.' I was never concerned he wasn't where he said he was."
DeCillo simply made the same assumptions most people do: You assume you're trustworthy and your mate is, too. The possibility that he could stray isn't even on your mind, so you don't get suspicious if he says he has to work late or go on a golf trip with his buddies. Usually it's not until the affair is out in the open that the betrayed mate can go back and give new meaning to history.
It's also common after an affair is exposed for the betrayed mate to feel like he or she is facing a new truth: You never can be sure whether your partner will cheat. In reality, it's a truth that was there all along.Five essential tips to prevent infidelity:

Hong Kong to produce 'world's first 3D sex movie'

HONG KONG (AFP) – A Hong Kong filmmaker aims to lure audiences back to the cinema with what what he says is the world's first 3D erotic movie, according to a newspaper report.
Stephen Shiu Jnr., chairman of One Dollar Production, said he would use special effects to make the love scenes in his 30 million-Hong Kong dollar (four million US) "3D Sex and Zen" as realistic as possible.
"The 3D erotica will probably be the world's first," he told the Sunday Morning Post.
"Just imagine that you'll be watching it as if you were sitting beside the bed."
The film is based loosely on the 17th century Chinese erotic classic "The Carnal Prayer Mat," a tale about how overindulgence in pleasure can lead to tragedy.
Shiu told the newspaper that about 25 to 30 percent of the movie would be love scenes, including many close-ups. He said the actresses would appear to be only a few centimentres (inches) from the viewers, who would have to wear special glasses to enjoy the 3D effects.
The producer said he was planning to use adult video actresses from Japan and Taiwan. But he admitted having difficulties in finding the male lead.
"We're having trouble finding a male lead who is willing to undress in front of the camera. It's a lot more difficult to find an actor than an actress for this kind of movie."
Shooting will begin in April and it is expected to be released in time for Christmas, the report said.
Hong Kong has seen the closure of many cinemas in recent years as traditional movie-goers switch to watching films on DVD at home.

We like our apartment…. 1- Playboy wasn’t originally called Playboy

What we know as Playboy today came very close to being known as Stag Party, which perhaps only seems awful in posterity. Hefner’s preferred title was stifled by another magazine, an outdoor rag called Stag, which threatened him with legal action if he went ahead with that title.The name Playboy came at the suggestion of Hefner’s associate Eldon Sellers, whose mother had previously been employed at the then-defunct Playboy Automotive Company.

2- Playboy hosted TV’s first desegregated program

Playboy’s Penthouse premiered in late October 1959 and it served a few purposes -- among them it was hoped that the show would introduce Hefner to a wider audience and eliminate any notion that he was little more than a perverted

3- The Playboy rabbit head is hidden on almost every cover

The tradition of concealing Playboy’s rabbit head logo on the magazine’s cover began in the 1960s as nothing more than “a lighthearted way to challenge readers.” By the mid-1970s, Playboy’s headquarters were inundated with so many requests from bewildered readers who searched and searched but could not find it that the editors began offering hints on where to find him on the contents page. But even before the popular draw of the rabbit head, Playboy’s mascot was so recognizable that a reader was able to address a letter to Playboy’s headquarters by simply drawing the mascot on the envelope.

4- Playboy’s financial empire was built on clubs and casinos, not magazine nudes

There is no doubting the success of the magazine; the first issue sold out quickly, and the company was doing well enough in the following years to launch a short-lived television show. However, no other business venture brought the company the kind of exorbitant income the way its Playboy clubs and casinos did during the 1960s. For Playboy, they were an unprecedented revenue juggernaut.Hefner’s format for the club was, in short, a copycat of Chicago’s Gaslight Club, which Playboy had featured in a 1959 issue; members owned “keys” that gave them exclusive access to the clubs, where attractive, scantily clad women served drinks. The feature was such a hit that Hefner and partner Victor Lownes decided to open their own based on the ”Playboy” lifestyle. Being a member was a status symbol; in fact, although membership fees were $50 for locals and $25 for out-of-towners, it is estimated that only a small percentage of those members ever even entered a club. By the end of 1961, 132,000 members passed through its doors, making it, at the time, the busiest nightclub in the world.By the end of 1961, clubs had opened in New Orleans and Miami (ultimately about 40 would open worldwide), and in that first year alone those clubs garnered the company an astonishing $4.5 million in gross profits. The expansion into England, where the clubs were also casinos, earned Playboy more money than any other venture, before or since.

5- Playboy’s iconic logo was created in half an hour

All things considered, Playboy’s beginnings are extremely modest. The first issue was written almost entirely by Hefner in his Hyde Park,

Chicago kitchen. Seeking a mascot of sorts, he envisioned a rabbit because of its “humorous sexual connotation” and its “frisky and playful” image. The tuxedo was added for sophistication.Additionally, he choose a rabbit as a means of standing apart from Esquire and The New Yorker, which used men as symbols. According to Art Paul, Playboy’s first art director and the man who drew the logo, “If I had any idea how important that little rabbit was going to be, I probably would have redrawn him a dozen times to make certain I was doing him justice. … As it was, I did one drawing and that was it. If you have the nerves to try to be in the adult biz, then you should be able to perform like a seasoned vet. Sure, it takes time to learn everything, but you have to remember you have a whole crew that's depending on you. Whatever the director orders you to do, try your best to give him or her as much time and open positions as they want in order to have a great scene.Are performance supplements accepted in the industry?Ashlynn: Most of the time, supplements aren't needed. Being that I'm a girl, I definitely never use them. However, there are times when the situation isn't exactly ideal for the performers (i.e., a scene in the desert that starts at 4 p.m. when the temperature is a smothering 95 degrees... and it’s lasting until 9 p.m. when the temperature has dropped to 40 degrees). To sum it up, they're not very common, but aren't looked down upon.Shane: Supplements -- yes, such as yohimbe, vitamin E, amino acids, ginseng, L-arginine, and saw palmetto. That’s a few, but there are many others that work well for other performers. If you are talking about Viagra or Cialis, then that’s something that’s not encouraged on sets, but if you need them, then you take them at your own risk and it's not provided for you.

Audition tips

Ron Jeremy told us that a man's only hope of getting past the audition phase is to go with a girl. Is this true?

Ashlynn: That is actually true to an extent. It's very helpful if the guy is requested by a girl/girls. It's a really good way for them to learn the way of the set, and it helps if they know the girl, making it a much easier experience for the "break" into the business.

Shane: That’s pretty much true; he is dead-on about that. She's your way in the door and your comfort zone. If she is your girlfriend, then you are more comfortable working with her, plus she knows the right buttons to push to take you over the top and she will help you keep that edge. It looks great walking into any room with a hot chick on your arm.

What are the grooming expectations when you audition for a porn?

Ashlynn: Just take care of yourself. Of course, everyone is different regarding hair, etc. Just keep up with basic personal hygiene on- and offset. I mean, who wouldn't do that anyways?

Shane: Keep it nice and clean please! The better groomed you are, the more the female talent will love to work with you and will often request you for other scenes. Even the camera man will love you for it.

Sexual limits

Do you have to be open to doing any kind of sex? How open-minded does one have to be?

Ashlynn: It's very important to keep an open mind onset. You're going to do things you never thought you would do normally, and still probably wouldn't do normally. But that's all part of the balance you should maintain separating work from you're day-to-day lifestyle.

Shane: It all depends on what kind of sex and how far you want to take it or how far they will allow you to take it. If you're pretty open-minded, then it's best to ask the director and the talent you are working with if certain things are OK to do, then take it from there. But never do anything that will make you look bad on camera that you will regret later.

On the other hand, what are the limits? Is there such a thing as being too open-minded or enthusiastic in an audition?

Ashlynn: Again, to each their own. What’s good for one person may not ever be good for the next. That's the beautiful and wonderful thing about this liberal business. We all love sex, and we all like it differently. No matter what, someone will like it. More than likely, thousands of somebodies will like it. Be yourself and do your thing. After all, who does "you" better than you?

Shane: Sure, there are limits, but try to come as close to them as possible. If you're enjoying it, just make sure you know the dos and don'ts of your talent and the director. Being enthusiastic is great and it shows well on camera.

STDs

Do you have to come with an STD test in hand?

Ashlynn: Absolutely. We take our health very seriously. We police ourselves to test once a month if not sooner. Plus, if you come with your test in hand it will show responsibility, commitment and desire to be a good performer.

Shane: Not always; it depends on the company you are working for. Most good companies will have your current test laid out on the table so the talent can check the date and status of the test, but it's always best to bring your own current test onset. You never know when someone might forget to print up your test and bring it onset. If there is no way to get valid proof, then the shoot will get canceled.

Getting the job

If the audition works out, what's the next step? Would one sign a contract on the spot?

Ashlynn: The next step is to take it easy, pay attention, get your foot in the door, then decide if this is right for you -- meaning how long you want to be in the business, what your goals are, and what you want to do with the rest of your life. Contracts are wonderful, but not everyone wants to go that route.

Shane: If all goes well, there is a good chance that you will be called back to do another scene for that company. It takes a few good scenes for a male performer to get signed and then there has to be something special about him that is marketable. If so, then the sky’s the limit; you could be off to a great start with a contract, or you could be like James Brown, the hardest-working man in the biz.

4 Effective Steps to Memorize A Name

Our names are so important to us. It’s on all our official documents, we answer proudly to it, we even learn to sign it with the flourish we think it merits. It’s flattering when someone remembers it -- and a little offensive when someone doesn’t:
The ability to recall other people's names is not only appreciated, it can also be both personally and professionally beneficial. Nonetheless, whether we meet 10 people or just one or two, we often have trouble remembering names -- despite their cultural importance. This occurs for a variety of reasons:

Names are exchanged at the beginning of a conversation and not at the end, which is when we’d be more likely to recall them.
We’re not paying a whole lot of attention, perhaps because we think we have no reason or desire to remember them.
Because the names themselves typically don’t mean anything other than to signify that particular person and to give them a "title."

This last reason may be the most significant. A guy tells you his name is John because his father’s name was John. Well, who’s his father to you? Nobody. But if a scrawny guy introduces himself as Fatty and says his parents were big Fatty Arbuckle fans, now we’re getting somewhere.

Doing so serves as the memory’s first reinforcement of the name, and it also happens to be good etiquette. Thus, whether it is following an introduction by a third person or the introduction is initiated by you or the other person, repeat their name in a simple, direct way, such as, “Todd, is it?” or “Nice to meet you, Mary.” Don't over-annunciate the name or make it obvious that you are repeating it for memorization purposes. Just make sure that you throw in the name at the beginning of the introduction again, or pepper it throughout your discussion at opportune moments to remind yourself and keep your mind focused on the name.

Apply a suitable deviceYour next step is an internal one: Apply a mnemonic device to the name itself in a second effort at reinforcement. Here there are a number of options at your disposal. Which device you choose to use is whatever works best for you. Such a device may be most effective when it isn’t the most obvious, or when it asks your brain to operate in a manner to which it isn’t accustomed. Some options include:
Make a rhyme.
Write it down. The simple act of jotting it down can be all you’ll need to memorize a name, although you may consider writing it down with your weaker hand. It won’t look pretty, but it’ll take longer and will demand more concentration.
Spell the name backwards in your head. Similar to the aspect of a field sobriety test that asks you to recite the alphabet backwards, doing this requires an unconventional mental action and will have you concentrating on the name fully.

Make a physical connectionFinally, keep in mind that our visual memory is strong; after all, you hear “I never forget a face” far more often than “I never forget a name.” So, in the final step, give that visual recollection the task of tagging the name together with some conspicuous or prominent aspect. A human face has yet to be born without some hook or tweak on which to hang your observational associations. For example:Eyes (shape, color, expressiveness or emptiness, shiftiness, intensity); eyebrows (uni-brow, bushy, thin, arched); or a short forehead, a shocking chin, a dramatic double curve of the upper lip (called Cupid’s bow), or any distinguishing feature at all that you can tie to the name. Should the face fail you, seek out other less ostensibly visual characteristics, such as manner of speaking (accent, lisp, nasal, good diction, loud, soft-spoken) or word choice (pretentious terms, odd synonyms, slang, cursing, using your name in excess).

Milestone for Digital Music Business

Digital music retailing has just gotten a lot simpler. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the recording labels and music publishers on Friday has streamlined the process of acquiring digital music rights.

Sandy Monteiro, Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) chairman said: “It is a blanket agreement between the publishers and labels to simplify the rights process.

“Prior to this MoU, a digital music retailer would have to sign about 15 different contracts with various labels and publishers from 27 different countries for the rights to a song. Now they just have to sign one,” he said.

Monteiro explained that the old way of digital retailing could take up to months on end and run up a digital retailer's legal fees. “If one legal contract is RM1,000, this could add up to quite a substantial sum,” he said.

The MoU is a step towards creating a one-stop centre for digital rights, said Monteiro.
“A bricks-and-mortar music retailer does not have to worry about whether he has the necessary rights to sell a CD. We’re trying to transfer this (kind of) simplicity into the digital world,” he said.

According to him, the record labels and publishers have been in discussion for five years and have decided to put aside all the agendas for the good of the business.

Monteiro claimed that Malaysia is the first country in South-East Asia to come up with such an initiative. “Other countries are watching us closely. The publishers and labels in Malaysia have been discussing this for years, where else most other countries haven’t even started,” he said.
This MoU not only solves the problems of the past but also opens up new frontiers for the future, Monteiro said.

According to RIM, digital music sales amounts to 25% of the music industry, with a value of RM20mil. The three major recording labels, Warner, Song BMG and Warner, are among those that signed the MoU.

5 Things You Didn't Know About James Bond

The timeless James Bond is everyone’s favorite spy, and he's been successfully killing bad guys, scoring beautiful women and saving the world on the big screen since 1962’s Dr. No. When he released Casino Royale in 1953, English novelist Ian Fleming could never have imagined the heights of popularity his 007 character would reach. Since then, Bond has been played by six different actors in more than 20 movies and has appeared in cartoons, radio programs and video games. Yet, despite all this exposure, we’ve found five things you probably didn’t know about James Bond.

1- James Bond was inspired by an American zoologist
To come up with his Bond character, Fleming pooled traits from several people he knew and had read about. In naming his soon-to-be famous spy, Fleming picked James Bond after the famed bird expert with the same name. Bond wrote the acclaimed Birds of the West Indies, considered by many experts to be the definitive book on Caribbean birds. To come up with Bond’s cool demeanor, Fleming took attributes from real-life spies Sidney Reilly and Sir William Stephenson, as well as popular jazz composer Hoagy Carmichael. In fact, Fleming, who worked in British naval intelligence, also channeled his former peers in the creation of his iconic character.

2- Bond was created on summer vacation
Agent 007 may have never materialized had Fleming not bargained with one of his bosses. Specifically, when Fleming applied for a job with Kemsley Newspapers, owned by the famed London Sunday Times, he asked that he be granted two months of vacation each year. His request was approved, and each year from 1953 until his death in 1964, Fleming used those months to write a different Bond novel while vacationing at his Jamaican estate. The estate’s name? Goldeneye.

3- Bond has a drink every 24.3 minutes
It’s not uncommon for the world’s best spy to crash the most lavish parties around the world, and while he’s there, he might as well have a drink if it’s offered. Bond’s staple is the classic vodka martini, shaken, not stirred, but he’s also been known to sample other drinks. In the Bond films up to Casino Royale, Bond is seen to consume 114 drinks -- the equivalent of one every 24.3 minutes. Interestingly enough, he drinks champagne more than anything (35 glasses) and only enjoys one beer. In the Bond novels, he drinks a total of 317 alcoholic drinks -- one every seven pages, on average. Though he may enjoy the occasional drink, Bond has steered clear of smoking since 2002’s Die Another Day -- which was the last time he smoked a cigar.

4- There are only seven 00s
You’re forgiven if you were under the impression that Bond’s MI6 organization was fully stocked with agents. Throughout the movies, we learn that Bond is one of just seven 00 agents spying for the British, but he has the best knack for staying alive. In different movies, we’ve see the deaths of 002, 003, 004, and 009. Agent 006, believed killed, returns as the villain in GoldenEye before he’s disposed of. Besides Bond, only the unnamed 008 proves to be a skilled agent. He’s mentioned several times as Bond’s replacement should he die or be pulled off a mission for insubordination. It’s unclear why no 001 or 005 have ever been mentioned.

5- Bond became a 00 at the age of 38
In each movie, we learn a little more about not only Bond, but also his background -- and it all amounts to what would be a very impressive resume. A decorated serviceman, Bond attended the University of Geneva, served in the Royal Navy and later joined the special forces. While there, he was successful in several key missions across the globe. Still needing a challenge, Bond joined MI6 at the age of 30, and 8 years later received the prestigious 00 status, granting him a licence to kill for his country. More than just a typical action hero, the cerebral Bond holds a degree in Oriental languages, is fluent in English, French, German, Italian, and Russian, and can get by with passable Greek, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese.

Volunteer

You might ask yourself why you should volunteer at work when there are so many organizations out there looking for help. How to Wear a Tuxedo?

If the evening calls for a tuxedo, you don’t have to be just another penguin and you don’t have to be afraid to rent one. Renting a tuxedo allows you the pleasure of not spending hundreds for an outfit you’ll only wear occasionally and you’ll be able to rent the latest style. Renting is easier than you think, but knowing how to wear a tuxedo will single you out as a man who knows how to dress well when the occasion calls for only the best.

Lately, I’ve noticed the garish trend of men opting out of the tuxedo. They either think it’s unnecessary or they don’t want to go to the effort. Unfortunately, they only look foolish.

I recently attended the annual gala opening of the Indianapolis Symphony, which is a formal, black-tie affair with international guests that include ambassadors and philanthropists. On this night, we enjoyed the solo efforts for guest violinist Joshua Bell. Bell grew up near Bloomington, Indiana, where he is now a professor at the Indiana University School of Music when he is not touring the world or scoring films. As a native son, I thought the audience would be especially eager to turn up in tuxedos and evening gowns. Alas, the scourge of fashion -- that casual Friday uniform of golf shirt and khakis -- ruled the night.

Would it have been so hard to find an affordable tuxedo at the last minute? I think not. If the invitation states that black-tie is optional, then, by all means, you had better show up in black-tie. The use of the word “optional” is just a polite way of reminding you what you should wear.

With that it mind, it occurred to me that with today’s relaxed fashion doctrine, many men may not know how to wear a tuxedo. So, I’m taking it upon myself to teach you young men exactly how to wear a tuxedo.

WHEN TO WEAR A TUXEDO

If the invitation to a wedding or the theater tickets say that it’s “optional” to wear a tuxedo, then you don’t have an option -- wear a tux. Then again, even if it doesn’t state the attire, you should go to the extra effort of showing your young lady friend that you’re a man of taste and wear one for that romantic evening at the theater. You really don’t have to have an invitation as an excuse or a reason. Her affection should be enough of an incentive -- it will be worth it.

WAYS TO WEAR A TUXEDO

Tie options: The first thing you’ll encounter when you’re learning how to wear a tuxedo is that you have three tie options to decide upon: The first is the pre-tied bow tie. The second is the actual bow tie, which takes a steady hand and a bit of practice. If you’re in a rush, don’t even think about this one. Third, a black tie adds a modern touch to any tux and is best for an evening with a younger crowd.

Collar styles: The band collar with the two small points facing down is what you usually get from the tux shop. If, however, you have a pinpoint French-cuffed shirt of your own, wear it instead. Why? First, you know it will fit. You’ll also be more comfortable and you won’t have to pay for a lousy shirt rental.

Shoes: I have two words for you: Black leather. Skip the patent-leather shoes that come with the tux at the rental shop and just wear your own black dress shoes, but make sure they are a simple capped toe and polished to a high shine. You’ll be happier during the event and the next day.

Cuff links and shirt studs: If you’re renting, just go with the set that comes with the tux. Otherwise, stay with cuff links in silver or stainless steel that don’t attract too much attention.

WHICH STYLE OF TUXEDO SHOULD YOU WEAR?

The single-breasted jacket is the all purpose and classic style that will fit all body types and sizes.

The double-breasted jacket always looks better on taller men because of its boxy shape and cut. If you are under six-feet tall, stay with a single-breasted jacket.

The shawl-collar jacket is the style that Sean Connery made famous as Bond, but its time has passed. If the salesman tries to talk you into this style, just go somewhere else.

The white dinner jacket is the only thing that will do if you have the luxury of attending a black-tie affair in a tropical climate. Otherwise, you’ll just look foolish, because even though it might be summer and the heat index is off the charts, a white dinner jacket simply looks out of place in a landlocked city.

BENDING THE RULES

Wearing only the jacket is probably the single best way to dress up a pair of jeans. The mere act screams rebel, so if you’re not confident in yourself when the moment arrives to step outside, go back in and try something else.

Wearing the jacket and trousers with a matching black shirt for a modern look is worth trying if you’ll be attending any event other than a wedding. The shirt, however, must be exceptionally well-made and look as good on its own as it does under the jacket.

THE DO's DONT's OF THE TUXEDO

The biggest mistake men make when wearing a tuxedo is placing the cummerbund around their waist with the pleats facing down. Over a hundred years ago, the pleats were designed to face up and were used to hold theater tickets. This was at a time when trousers did not have pockets and all men carried their money in their jackets. So, pay homage to your ancestors and wear the pleats up. You can still hold your ticket stubs in the pleats.

Fortunately, there's a lot that you can do to slow down this process. Below are some tips to keep your memory sharp.

1. Eat healthy meals

Maintaining a well-balanced diet is not only important for your body, it's also essential for your brain and memory. According to the American Academy of Neurology, eating fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants -- such as berries, oranges, spinach, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes -- can reduce the risk of stroke by 11%.

Another study has shown that antioxidants and polyphenols in blueberries, cranberries and grapes can help improve the ability of brain cells to communicate with each other, and lessen the brain's susceptibility to injury.

In addition to fruits and vegetables, elements such as curcumin and B vitamins such as niacin and folic acid may also help prevent memory loss, and may reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

2. Lay off the booze

Some people don't remember anything about the previous night's party after binge drinking. Luckily for them, in most cases, this alcohol "blackout" or memory loss is temporary.

Auto executives agree: their industry is headed into a giant storm.
The clouds of global economic turmoil cast a pall over the opening of the Paris Motor Show yesterday - although a staged display of thunder and blue lightning bolts provided a dramatic backdrop for the introduction of BMW AG's new 7 series.
General Motors Corp chief operating officer Fritz Henderson said the US hasn't seen such a slump in auto sales in two decades and predicted "chaos" if US lawmakers don't approve a US$700 billion financial bailout plan.

Ford Motor Co's CEO for Europe, John Fleming, said he is bracing for a difficult end to 2008 as declining housing markets and tightening credit take their toll.
And Carlos Ghosn, CEO of French carmaker Renault SA, said the global auto industry could remain in a funk for two years.
"We don't know if we are at the start of the end or the end of the start," he told reporters.
With rock music and clouds of dry ice, automakers unveiled smaller and more fuel-efficient cars to cater to consumers both cash-strapped and environmentally conscious. The new models are testimony that the industry is working to adapt to an era of expensive gas and mounting concerns about global warming.
Honda Motor Co unveiled a new five-door gasoline-electric hatchback to challenge rival Toyota Motor Corp's success with the hybrid Prius. Honda said its Insight would be cheaper than any other hybrid car on the market, to make the low-emission technology affordable for more consumers. The Japanese automaker aims to sell 200,000 of the cars each year, launching next spring in Japan, Europe and North America.
Renault showed off a revamped Megane compact hatchback. France's second-largest automaker, which is cutting 6,000 jobs to maintain profitability, hopes the car will make up for poor sales of the low-cost Laguna car.

And luxury car makers like Ferrari added their very own touch of glamour. The Italian automaker introduced its new California - a coupe-cabriolet with a retractable hard top - claiming that customers at the very top end of the market are immune for the moment.
"What is affecting Ferrari customers is not the financial times," CEO Amedeo Felisa said in an interview with The Associated Press.
The displays covered the entire range: fast to slow, luxury to economy. Renault displayed a Formula One racer. Peugeot showed a speedster for the Le Mans Series. Mercedes unveiled its latest armored limousine for VIPs, described as "luxuriously spacious and superbly comfortable."
Underscoring the need for green, some models had the amount of carbon dioxide they emit pasted in large numbers down their sides.
The two-week show opens to the public this Sat after two press days.
Citigroup expects 2008 to be the first year of volume declines since 2001 for the global car industry, and last month it lowered its outlook for this year and next after double-digit declines in new car registrations in western Europe, the US, and Japan.
Overall US auto sales plunged last month, dropping below one million for the first time in more than 15 years as some consumers struggled to get car loans and others stayed away from showrooms amid bank failures and Wall Street turmoil.

Sales at every major US and foreign brand fell at least 24%from the previous year, with the exception of GM, which said it sold 16% fewer vehicles, helped by its month-long offer of employee pricing for all buyers.
GM's Henderson said the company can't rule out the need for more restructuring if the economic crisis worsens and said it was "extraordinarily important" that US lawmakers pass a financial bailout to shore up confidence.
France's car market has held up, thanks to government incentives to buyers of green vehicles. The French car manufacturer's association said on Wed that new car registrations rose 8.4% in Sept from a year earlier.
Last year, France introduced rebates and surcharges to encourage sales of more environmentally friendly vehicles. Under the system, dubbed "bonus-malus," car buyers can take money off the purchase price depending on how much CO2 the vehicle emits.
Larger rebates are awarded for cars meeting stricter emissions criteria, from 200 euros (US$287) all the way up to 5,000 euros (US$7,175) for electric vehicles putting out less than 60 grams of CO2 per km.
"The French market is resisting well for the moment. I hope it will continue," Renault's Ghosn said.

The Jazz goes on a fashion roadshow

Staying the distance in The Amazing Race Asia 3

I am really surprised at how “the heiress” and “the actress” are running The Amazing Race Asia 3 (TARA 3). These two - Tania Khan and Ida Nerina - are true blue city girls who lead pretty “comfortable” lives in Kuala Lumpur. They admittedly have never backpacked before, they usually travel in planes (as opposed to the 25-hour bus ride they took in Vietnam) and with suitcases (and porters) in tow.

On the race however, the two have emerged as one of the most able and least fussy teams. Yeah, there has been the occasional whine and the periodic wail but I think we all agree that eating a big bowl of “stinky tofu” in Taiwan earned actress Ida Nerina some right to wail (and weep). Generally though, these two have been pretty enthusiastic about taking on the various challenges that make up the Amazing Race and they were first at the pit stop last week. Catching live chickens and shoving them into baskets? Yeah, bring it on. Changing a tyre? Sure, why not. Hats off, city girls.
TARA 3 seems to be living up to its premise of being “the toughest race ever”. From the first episode where the teams had to eat a bowl of fried insects, bugs and frogs and then rush to a Caltex station to wash a filthy express bus armed with just a pail, a mop and some towels, to the back-breaking, tear-inducing extended race in Episode Two where teams raced almost non-stop for more than 30-hours (according to Tish and Geoff from the Philippines), TARA 3 has not been a disappointment to fans of the reality series. And while the race has been physically punishing, it has also been full of drama. Kudos to the production team for a good job with the editing once again.
The race started with 10 teams: Malaysians Tania and Ida as well as Bernie and Henry Chan; Natalie Glebova and Pailin Rungratanasunthorn from Thailand; Sam Wu and Vince Chung from Hong Kong; Oliver Faivre and Visa Sarasas (better known as Mai) also from Thailand; A.D. Chan and Fuzzie Sirajudin from Singapore; Tisha Silang and Geoff Rodriguez from the Philippines; Niroo and Kapil Asrani from India; William and Isaac Hong from South Korea; and Neena and Amit Rai from India.
After four episodes, we now have only six teams left in the race. First to be eliminated were the cousins from India, Neena and Amit. Next to go were the soft-spoken Koreans, Isaac and William; the beauty queens from Thailand, Natalie and Pailin; and the father and son from India, Niroo and Kapil.
While some of my male friends were really sad to see Natalie and Pailin leave the race, I was quite happy because I kind of like Pailin and did not think she needed to endure the insufferable Natalie (Miss Universe 2005 who turned out to be Miss-Biggest-Pain-in-the-Universe) any longer than she already had. I mean, you wonder why Natalie agreed to join the race if she felt that sleeping in an airport overnight was akin to being tortured? Did she not watch past Amazing Race episodes?
It was a tad sad seeing Niroo and Kapil leave last week, though. I don’t understand why they got so frustrated and wanted to quit just because they could not figure out how to remove the car key from the ignition. Dudes, ask someone for help already.
So who do we have left to cheer for and who do we have to jeer?
In whatever nationalistic spirit I have left, let me start with my fellow Malaysians, Bernie and Henry. They seem pretty strong and are really focused on winning. Especially Bernie ... heck, she is scary isn’t she? The siblings have been first to reach the pit stop twice so far and unless they run into some really bad luck, I see them in the final three.
Next, we have the team I really hate. Or at least the person I hate the most: Geoff of the Philippine team. I mean, what is his problem, apart from being unjustifiably arrogant and unpleasant? He is rude, sneaky, snaky and pathetically abusive, especially to his girlfriend. The dude is a loser and if he stays in the race, I hope he is put to the test every leg.
Then there is the princess and her porter from Thailand: Mai and Oliver. They don’t seem to be fighting as much as the race goes on but that’s probably because they are putting all their energy into being sneaky €” like how they found the clue last week but pretended like they did not. Hmm, perhaps they are the dark horses in the competition, eh? After all, Mai seems to be carrying her own backpack a little more.
Now, I know that as Malaysians, we have this unwritten code where we automatically diss Singaporeans, but I like the two girls from Singapore. Fuzzie and A.D. as probably one of the few “real” people on the race. They are not paticularly kiasu and not too bothered about getting the better of the other teams. Their strategy is simply to not come in last.
The Hong Kong boys, Sam and Vince, are perhaps the least controversial team on the Race. They don’t seem to have a winning strategy in place but somehow, they make it through each week without that much of a struggle. Will luck see them through to the end?
So far, the pace of the race has been relentless, with an elimination every week. Do the teams get a reprieve tomorrow or will another team be on the chopping block?
Elimination or not, it will most likely be yet another exciting episode with plenty to laugh about and even more to scream at. And, if you can still muster some nationalistic spirit, let’s cheer for the two Malaysian teams that seem to be leading the pack this far.

New Bond Girl Proud Of Her "Little Oddity"

Bond girls have long been exceptional women. From Ursula Andress to Halle Berry, they have each embodied the feminine ideal of their particular time. Gemma Arterton, the statuesque stunner who plays Agent Fields in next month's Quantum of Solace, has proven herself to be exceptional not only for her English Rose beauty, but also because she was born with six fingers on each hand.
"It's my little oddity that I'm really proud of," she said to Esquire magazine. "It makes me different." Different indeed. The condition, called Polydactyly, occurs in 1 of every 500 births.
Don't bother looking for additional digits in the film, though. As a child, the surplus digits were "tied," which causes the boneless protrusions to fall off with time. She still bares bumpy scars where her extra appendages once were.
Earlier this year, she revealed that she was also born with a crumpled ear, which was surgically corrected in childhood. "I was born with lots of deformities," the 22-year-old actress told the British press.
Arterton, a graduate of London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art who was best known for a BBC adaptation of Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the D'Urbervilles," beat out 1,500 contenders to become the latest Bond girl. She admitted to InStyle magazine that having to kiss Daniel Craig on her first day working on the film had her "giggling left, right, and center and being really immature."

Will Iceland The First Hit From Global Financial Meltdown?

This volcanic island near the Arctic Circle is on the brink of becoming the first "national bankruptcy" of the global financial meltdown.
Home to just 320,000 people on a territory the size of Kentucky, Iceland has formidable international reach because of an outsized banking sector that set out with Viking confidence to conquer swaths of the British economy — from fashion retailers to top soccer teams.
The strategy gave Icelanders one of the world's highest per capita incomes. But now they are watching helplessly as their economy implodes — their currency losing almost half its value, and their heavily exposed banks collapsing under the weight of debts incurred by lending in the boom times.
"Everything is closed. We couldn't sell our stock or take money from the bank," said Johann Sigurdsson as he left a branch of Landsbanki in downtown Reykjavik.
The government had earlier announced it had nationalized the bank under emergency laws enacted to deal with the crisis.
"We have been forced to take decisive action to save the country," Prime Minister Geir H. Haarde said of those sweeping new powers that allow the government to take over companies, limit the authority of boards, and call shareholder meetings.
A full-blown collapse of Iceland's financial system would send shock waves across Europe, given the heavy investment by Icelandic banks and companies across the continent.
One of Iceland's biggest companies, retailing investment group Baugur, owns or has stakes in dozens of major European retailers — including enough to make it the largest private company in Britain, where it owns a handful of stores such as the famous toy store Hamley's.
Kaupthing, Iceland's largest bank and one of those whose share trading was suspended last week to stop a huge sell-off, has also invested in European retail groups.
Thousands of Britons have accounts with Icesave, the online arm of Landsbanki that regulators said was likely to file for bankruptcy after it stopped permitting customers to withdraw money from their accounts Tuesday.
To try to wrest control of the spiraling situation, the government also loaned $680 million to Kaupthing to tide it over and said it was negotiating a $5.4 billion loan from Russia to shore up the nation's finances.
The speed of Iceland's downfall in the week since it announced it was nationalizing Glitnir bank, the country's third largest, caught many by surprise despite warnings that it was the "canary in the coal mine" of the global credit squeeze.

The interior part was designed of a “flowing” concept, with that constructed the whole environment. Their chefs group develop more than 200 kinds of cuisine of Japanese, Chinese, and Western style, all the cuisine is no limited. Furthermore, the dainty china-ware is from the famous Jing Teh Town.

On 30th.Sep, we went there at 4:50pm. According to the receptionist, the section would be opened from 5:00pm till 9:30pm (There's limitation for weekend section, only 2 hours is applicabled for each seat during the schedule. Thus, if you plan to have full 4.5 hours dinning, I would suggest you go by weekday). For my daughter who is below 80 cm height, is free of charge. But, they will charge RM10 on those kids are between 80 cm to 100 cm height.

We were waiting outsite the restaurant until 5:00pm sharp, until the receptionist leaded us to a table for three ( I came along with my wife and daughter). Before taking any food, it's advisable to go have a walk on each outlets. Then you will find various type of cuisines, and not fulling your stomach with few choices, else you will regret. In fact, I don't think your stomach is capable to try all types of cuisine. There are just too many. So, choose your really desire.

We started with Japanese sushi, salmon sashimi, scallop, oyster, baby lobster, tepanyaki beef and tempura prown, and beverage with red wine and coconuts. Then, we continued with chinese cuisine on eel, crab, BBQ prown, western cuisine on cheese baked escargots, mussels, grilled eel, baby lobster, beef. Finally with a paper steamboat, some cheese cake, chooclate balls, tiramisu, fruits and Haagen Daze ice-cream. For beverage, besides red wine and coconuts, we had also tried the white wine, others cocktails ( can't remember each name. Mostly we just tried with few sips), chinese tea and coffee. (You can imagine how full were our stomach.)

We left the restaurant about 9:00pm, where we were really can't take anymore food. Then, we proceed with a light Bintang Walks, before taking back our car in Pavillion's car-park.

Drawing Arts on The Wall

It took four hours of intense concentration and hard work, but a once nondescript wall near the Pasar Seni LRT station in Kuala Lumpur is now emblazoned with Hari Raya Aidilfitri greetings.
True, there was no official permission granted for the wall to be painted, and neither was there any approval for the final artwork.
But the messages on the wall are not mere scribblings sprayed carelessly by vandals.
Some people may still be blinded by their bias towards graffiti’s negative reputation, but those less prejudiced would notice that the artwork are meticulously done, with attention to detail and technique. This is, after all, a showcase of the talent of some of the best graffiti artists in town.

Graffiti dates back to ancient times when history of civilisations are recorded on walls.
In modern times, graffiti has taken on subversive overtones, most notably to express anti establishment sentiments on public spaces.
In the United States, graffiti has been used by gangs to mark their territories, while political activists use it to forward their causes.
However, in recent years, people have begun viewing this urban art form in a different light, with growing appreciation for its power of expression, accessibility to the public and aesthetic value.
When hip-hop culture arrived in Malaysia, it brought along with it elements like breakdancing, rapping, DJ-ing and graffiti art.
Members of the local graffiti groups The Super Sunday and Poison Pills worked on the Hari Raya wall. The Super Sunday and Phobia are among the more active graffiti groups in Kuala Lumpur. They are not widely known outside their circles, but they are at the forefront of a growing graffiti art movement in the capital city.
Graffiti artists are also referred to as graffiti writers since the art often involves a lot of word styling. Each writer has a pen name, called “tag”, that he sprays on walls as his signature.
Graffiti artists usually prefer to work in groups because it is more fun and they can get more work done.
“I used to do solo as well but it’s boring to go bombing (graffiti spraying) alone and you run out of ideas after a while. With a group, you can meet writers from other groups when collaborating, you can do nice productions (bigger graffiti work involving several writers) and let more people know about your work,” says Qhaidar Nazaleen Qamaruddin Khidhir, 18.
She is one of the rare female graffiti artist around, but it has not deterred her from pursuing her passion for the art.

“When I first started doing graffiti outdoors, my parents didn’t like it. They said it is for boys and I will be mixing with a lot of guys out there.
“But I explained that I want to develop my art. Although I started learning art on paper, I don’t have to stick to paint brush forever, right?” she says.
Qhaidar adds: “The wall (at the Pasar Seni LRT station) was dirty and had inappropriate words on it. We discussed how we could clean it up and beautify it so that when people walk pass, they will appreciate it.” The petite girl was not at all bothered that her hands were speckled with green paint while working on the wall.
A beginner in graffiti usually starts with sketching his tag name, then “tagging” his name on the wall and eventually progressing to creating other images. For the untrained eye, it is easy to pass a tag name as an oddshaped block but for the writer, it is his identity and creativity displayed on a wall.
Only time will tell if the public will appreciate graffiti work.
That’s another thing about graffiti – the message gets out to the public faster than exhibiting a work in the gallery and the feedback is almost instantanous.
However, spray painting during the daylight is a challenge, says Qhaidar, who goes by the tag name Barbie.
“Most of the time we don’t have permission to paint graffiti. We curi-curi buat (do it secretly) but we make sure we do it neatly,” she says. She was nervous when she went for her first graffiti outing. Her father met The Kioue, a graffiti writer from The Super Sunday, and after learning about what they do, he agreed to let Qhaidar go along.
Since then, she has begun to pursue the art seriously, painting graffiti in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Negri Sembilan and even teaching at a graffiti workshop under the Rakan Muda programme. Qhaidar now has her own graffiti group called Poison Pills, with two other male writers Nas-el and Phaez.

Marina Bay Sands to open by end of 2009

Come late 2009, Singapore’s vibrant Marina Bay waterfront will feature a new and magnificent destination - The Marina Bay Sands.

The Marina Bay Sands is being developed by Marina Bay Sands Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corp, a leading global integrated resorts developer and an industry leader in the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) market in the US.

According to Marina Bay Sands Pte Ltd general manager George Tanasijevich, construction of Marina Bay Sands is on-track and on-target for an end-2009 opening.

The total size of the Marina Bay Sands site exceeds 15 hectares with the MICE space occupying more than 120,000 sq m; three hotel towers with more than 2,600 rooms; over 750,000 sq ft of retail and F&B outlets; theatres with approximately 4,000 seats; casino and an event plaza which will accommodate 10,000 people.

“Our three hotel towers; MICE facilities; casino and theatres areas are expected to be topped off in mid-2009. Currently, the development of Tower 1 is at level 13; Tower 2 at level 11 and Tower 3 at level 9.

“In the MICE area, sub-structure works are well established and progressing, and superstructure works are well underway and rising above ground.

“Casino sub-structure works are also progressing well and superstructure works are about to commence above ground,” Tanasijevich told StarBiz.

Las Vegas Sands, which was awarded the bid for Singapore’s first integrated resort (IR) in May 2006, will invest more than S$5bil to develop The Marina Bay Sands, said to be one of the largest investments in the world for a single IR.

The IR is expected to generate S$2.7bil to Singapore’s annual gross domestic product and create 33,000 jobs throughout the economy by 2015.

Tanasijevich said the Marina Bay Sands’ opening would be a powerful catalyst to propel Singapore’s status as a leading MICE hub and enhanced the city state’s position as one of the world’s premier business and leisure destinations.

“As the first luxury IR in Southeast Asia, Marina Bay Sands will offer all visitors new and world-class experiences in dining, shopping, entertainment and MICE.

“It will combine state-of-the-art convention and exhibition facilities, luxury hotel facilities, an iconic ArtScience Museum, Las Vegas-style gaming, theatres, entertainment and an unparalleled spread of shopping and dining outlets in one landmark structure.”

In addition, the design of the development, by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, is unique and will integrate seamlessly with its surroundings at downtown Marina Bay.

Two iconic architectural features of Marina Bay Sands are the inspiring ArtScience Museum and the sky park offering expansive 360 degree views of Singapore’s city skyline.

“Marina Bay Sands is committed to helping Singapore achieve its economic, tourism and social goals. To that end, we are working closely with the Ministry of Manpower, Workforce Development Agency, National Trades Union Congress and Singapore Tourism Board to ensure that there is a sufficient pool of skilled talent for the sector.

“Key opportunities moving forward include leveraging and building on Singapore’s status as a premier destination for MICE events. Last year, the business travel and events sector earned over S$5bil for Singapore, establishing a new record for the MICE sector in the city state.

“Singapore was also ranked as the top international meeting city in the world by the Union of International Associations for the first time this year,” he noted.

Honda Insight Concept at 2008 Paris International Auto Show

Honda will reveal a concept version of its new small hybrid vehicle, to be named Insight, at the 2008 Paris International Auto Show next month.
The new Insight Concept shares styling cues with the Honda FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle and will provide an early look at the highly-anticipated five-passenger hybrid vehicle.

The vehicle goes on sale in the US next spring, and is expected to enter the market at a price significantly below hybrids available today.
Evoking the innovative styling cues first seen in the FCX Clarity, the production Insight will be offered as a five-door, five-passenger hatchback, and will utilise a more cost-efficient version of Honda's Integrated Motor Assist hybrid technology.

Numerous other technologies, including a function to assist customers in achieving more fuel efficient driving habits, will be applied to achieve a further improvement in real world fuel efficiency.

Along with the Civic Hybrid, the new vehicle will be produced at an expanded hybrid vehicle production line at the Suzuka factory in Japan, with expected annual global sales at 200,000 units per year, half of which will be in the US.
